(Random walkies in Woy Woy)
There was about an hour of blue sky yesterday. As soon as it appeared I snatched up the camera and rushed out for some some snaps.
Wasn't quick enough in the afternoon and got a power blackout halfway through blogging. Turns out there was some damage from that big storm last year and yesterday's storm was the last little push it needed. One of the Dear Old Things was all of a twitter, convinced we were going to be out for days again but it's fixed now.
Woy Woy Bay from Woy Woy. Quiet weekday water with the Woy Woy bus terminal (bottom centre) and the railway station (bottom right).
Equipment raft, pile driver & footbridge from Woy Woy Wharf.
The blue raft has piles and stuff for making jetties. The pile driver is for bunging in the piles to support the jetties. There's hundreds of private and dozens of public jetties on Brisbane Water.
The hill in the middle distance is Parks Bay/Koolewong. The one behind it is Tascott.
Grevillea acanthifolia. Australian native wildflowers popular with gardeners.
Partial solar eclipse yesterday
Buggeration. The storm yesterday was lovely and there was a wee glance of the eclipse. It was a partial eclipse of the sun by the moon. Didn't get a usable photo of my own, sod it, but here's a nice big specky one: Dramatic views of solar eclipse through cloud

bloody weather!!!
At least I managed to get some washing done and gettting it dry before the storm came i had 2 short blackouts here it was really pissing me off as I also downloaded and installed IE7 and it sucks big time I wish I hadnt done it now
Yeah and they said on the telly we've got more rain coming over the next 3 months.
There's been a shitload of blackouts since those big storms. They must've knocked the whatsits about or something. It's beyond me. All I know about power is Never Stick a Knife in the Toaster.
I had a blackout here early saturday morning just before 5.30am I rang energy australia to report the blackout but they already knew about it then I asked them if they knew how long it would be before the power came back on and they said about 9-9.30am but it came back on about 6.30 dont know what couldve caused it there was no storm around at the time
Weird. It's not like there'd be a build up of dust or whatever it usually is, not with this rain.
Speaking of which, it didn't half piss down this morning.
it was pretty bad this morning but you shouldve seen it on saturday about 12.30 - 1pm I was coming back from Gosford and the traffic was moving fairly slow just before you get to the racecourse rd/pacific higway intersection at West Gosford and I thought there might have been a accident up ahead but there wasnt - what it was the intersection itself was flooded and everyone had to slow down to get through there it was up to the top of the wheels on my car anyway, coppers were there too keeping an eye on things
Sounds a bit hairy. That must've been when that 43mm fell on Gosford.
Here it was pounding down and great sheets of rain moving across Blackwall Road but nothing like as bad as Gosford.
I went to gosford about 11 - 11.30am not a drop then I got to the library just before midday and thats when it started I could hear it on the roof of the library it was bucketing down, when i left the library it was still coming down
That intersection always floods in heavy rain
They had an aerial photo of the racecourse and that intersection up in Woy Woy library a while back and you could see why it floods. The racecourse's got a wee lake in the middle of it and a big lake when it rains and that intersection's not an inch higher than the tracks then there's Narara Creek just down the road. Natural floodplain area. Not really the ideal spot for a town :)
and i remember the intersection of mann and erina streets and near the leagues club in gosford used to flood not sure if they do now or not maybe the council decided to get off their fat arses and do something about it
Where the Gosford pub is?
yeah thats it
Must've been bloody inconvenient having a flood there. Major thoroughfare and all that.
