Joseph Frewin was the older brother of my great-great-grandfather William Frewin. They were born in Berkshire in the 1820s, and both were working at a starch factory in London in 1851, the year before Joseph set out for Australia.
Cool! And what a change from a London factory to the Australian sun.
Have you got a photo of him?
Sadly, no - early photography, like gravestones, was way beyond the means of my impoverished ancestors.
The local paper in Gosford carried a report of Joseph Frewin's death by drowning in 1877 - he died on February 23rd.
(Of course the Joseph Frewin on the memorial was one of his descendants.)
Bummer about the photos.
Will keep an eye out for the newspaper report at the library.
